Day 84: The Doe’s Path

  • 1 oz rye
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz Cynar
  • 1/4 oz Bénédictine
  • rosemary sprig to garnish

It’s another Whiskey Wednesday! I picked up some Rittenhouse this afternoon and wanted to try it out. This cocktail seemed very familiar to me, though I can’t quite place it. (It does seem kind of like a Brooklyn.) The rosemary is essential here, as it really gives a wonderful nose to the drink. I might even be starting to enjoy Cynar under the right circumstances.

Day 56: Whiskey Flip

  • 3 oz whiskey
  • whole egg
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp heavy cream

Flush with success from last night, I wanted to make another eggy cocktail. Since it’s Whiskey Wednesday I went for a whiskey flip. It’s too bad this one didn’t work out. It just tasted like whiskey. Maybe if I had used simple instead of actual sugar? I’ve never had any luck with using sugar in cocktails, it never dissolves for me.

Day 28: Garage Peter Sellers

  • 1 1/2 oz rye
  • 1 1/2 oz gin
  • 1 oz apple brandy
  • 1 oz vermouth
  • dash of aromatic bitters

I wanted to start a new feature, so welcome to whiskey Wednesday! Unfortunately we are starting off with one that I did not quite get right. It’s another recipe from Garage, and one that I haven’t tried making yet. This try was definitely too heavy on the gin. I think next time I’ll add more rye and decrease everything else, except for maybe the brandy.
