Day 62: Abbey

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz Lillet
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • dash Angostura

I bought some Lillet weeks ago and hadn’t opened it, so I wanted to use it for tonight’s drink. I found this recipe. I think the Citadel was too dry of a gin to use for this. The drink was piney and astringent, and I think the juice hid the Lillet too much. I might try again with a different gin.

Day 50: Planet of the Apes

  • 1 oz dark Jamaican rum
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 3/4 oz crème de banana
  • 1/2 oz 151 rum
  • 1/2 oz lime juice

Any cocktail with crème de banana used to get the side-eye from me, but I think I’m starting to come around. This is not obnoxiously banana flavored. It’s fairly smooth, and smells more like banana than it tastes.

Day 36: Beachbum’s Own

  • 1 1/2 oz light rum
  • 1 1/4 oz gold rum
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz pineapple juice
  • 3/4 oz orange juice
  • 3/4 oz passion fruit syrup
  • 3/4 oz Licor 43

Here’s another sweet, easy drinker. This called for Demerara rum, which I don’t have, so I substituted the gold Angostura rum instead.

I also had the good fortune to visit Adrift last night,a tiki bar in Denver. I had an excellent Scorpion Bowl and a fine Mai Tai. I have now decided that I need one of those tiki punch bowls at home.
