Day 81: Barnaby Lights

  • 2 oz pisco
  • 3/4 oz Aperol
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 barspoon kirschwasser

I inherited some Kirschwasser from William and Kim when they cleaned out the bar, so of course I wanted to figure out what the hell I could make with it. This also used another unusual and often ignored liquor, Pisco. I LOVED it! It was refreshing and fruity without being obnoxious. Dane said that he could imagine drinking a pitcher of this stuff by the pool in summer.

Day 66: Aperol Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Aperol
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz lime juice
  • top with Sprite

Today I hosted a tea party, and several people ended up staying later for drinks. A girlfriend of mine is a big fan of vodka, so I found this recipe for her. She liked it so much she requested a second one later! I had a sip to test it, it was not as sweet as you would expect. The Aperol gives it a bit more of a grown-up taste than a typical vodka drink.

Day 46: Quiet Italian Gentleman

  • 2 oz Bulleit rye
  • 1 oz Punt e Mes
  • 1/2 oz Aperol
  • 1/2 oz amaretto

Tonight I wanted something medicinal since my throat is sore, but I left all of my lemons at a friend’s house after a party last night so I couldn’t make a toddy. This comes from a menu for a local Italian place. The recipe calls for Campari and Carpano, but I subbed Aperol (because Campari is so bitter) and Punt e Mes (because I don’t have Carpano). This turned out less bitter than I was afraid of, with a nice bite that is soothing on my throat.
